DBV 2-5-14

"Another time Jesus went into the synagogue, and a man with a shriveled hand was there. Some of them were looking for a reason to accuse Jesus, so they watched Him closely to see if He would heal him on the Sabbath. Jesus said to the man with the shriveled hand, “Stand up in front of everyone.” Then Jesus asked them, “Which is lawful on the Sabbath: to do good or to do evil, to save life or to kill?” But they remained silent. He looked around at them in anger and, deeply distressed at their stubborn hearts, said to the man, “Stretch out your hand.” He stretched it out, and his hand was completely restored. Then the Pharisees went out and began to plot with the Herodians how they might kill Jesus." – Mark 3:1-6 (NIV)

Thoughts: It's not good that Jesus couldn't catch a break, but it does make me feel better about my life. You think your life is bad -Jesus healed a man's hand and before doing so people plotted to accuse Him of wrong doing, and afterward they plotted to kill Him. At least there isn't a large group of unidentified people constantly plotting against you.

I'm not entirely certain what the Sabbath was -maybe it's because I'm tired and not thinking clearly and I don't remember or maybe I just don't know period -but I think the Sabbath was the "day of rest". So Jesus healing someone counts as "work" and they were trying to get Him in trouble that way like they had before. And knowing that, Jesus addressed them outright asking what was really right or wrong to do on the Sabbath: good/evil or save/kill. Sometimes people get so caught up in condemning other people they end up witnessing the miracles around them.
