Zodiac 10: Greek Gods/ Planets/ Zodiac Signs

I consulted Wikipedia and found out some things. Firstly let it be stated that I found pattern on my own that is in fact true of the Zodiac signs:

Cardinal signs (Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn)
Fixed signs (Taurus, Leo, Scorpio and Aquarius)
Mutable signs (Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius and Pisces)
Cardinal = Leader
Fixed =Stable, Not Easily Moved, Not Gullible
Mutable = More adaptable to change, unsteady, always shifting

Now that I have bragged about that, I'm going to go into the wonderful world of Greek/ Roman gods and planets/ zodiac signs associated with them.

Aries- Planet Mars (God = Ares) Ares is associated with: Hate/ War, bloodlust, violence, manly courage, and civil order. His sacred animals are the vulture, venomous snakes, alligators, and dogs.
Taurus –Planet Venus (Goddess = Aphrodite) Love and Beauty –The Dove
Gemini –Mercury (God = Hermes) Deceptive/ Thieves, medicine and travelers, travel, messengers, trade, thievery, cunning wiles, language, writing, diplomacy, athletics, and animal husbandry/ Messenger god who leads souls of the dead to Hades/ Tortoise, ram, and hawk
Cancer-Moon (Goddess= Roman Diana/ Greek Artemis) Hunting/ Virginity/ Virgin goddess of the hunt, wilderness, wild animals, childbirth and plague/ Deer, bears, wild boars
Leo –Sun (God = Apollo) Arts, music and light and prophecy/ Handsome/ God of music, healing, plagues, prophecies, poetry, and archery; associated with light, truth and the sun. Dolphins, roe deer, swans, cicadas, hawks, ravens, crows, cows, and snakes.
Virgo-Mercury (God = Hermes) Deceptive Thieves, medicine and travelers/ / God of travel, messengers, trade, thievery, cunning wiles, language, writing, diplomacy, athletics, and animal husbandry/ Messenger god who leads souls of the dead to Hades/ Tortoise, ram, and hawk
Libra –Venus (Goddess = Aphrodite) Love and Beauty –The Dove
Scorpio –Pluto (God = Hades) Underworld/ Death/ King of the Underworld and god of the dead and the hidden wealth of the Earth/ Owls
Sagittarius- Jupiter (Zeus) Air/ Clouds Power/ Jovial/ The king of the gods, the ruler of Mount Olympus and the god of the sky, weather, thunder, storms, law, order, and fate/ He was also kind of a slut/ Eagle and Bull
Capricorn –Saturn (God =Chronos) Time/ Envious/ a cruel and tempestuous force of chaos and disorder/ This is the God that overthrew Uranus his dad and gave birth to Zeus and all the other gods
Aquarius –Uranus (Uranus) Sky/ Original Ruler of the Universe
Pisces-Neptune (Poseidon) Sea/ Earthquakes and sea storms/ God of the sea, rivers, floods, droughts, earthquakes, and the creator of horses/ Horse and dolphin

Well that was fun. I was very interested in Greek Mythology and Ancient Egyptian culture when I was younger. Unfortunately I forgot a lot about the things I learned that could have aided me here. I definitely see some patterns between certain gods and their zodiac counter parts:
Poseidon/ Neptune -Sea/ Ocean/ Unpredictable and Changing, and is connected to Pisces, a water sign... It's similar
Aquarius an Air Sign associated with Uranus the Sky God -makes sense
Sagittarius and Zeus -Yah this one fits. Controlling, concerned with law and order, prone to independency (like from relationships), associated with being Jovial but also whipping out lightning bolts on whim to zap people... Yah it fits.
Capricorn and Cronos??? - Not really...
Scorpio and Hades God of the Underworld and hidden wealth of the Earth -Yes. Scorpios are dark, gloomy, and secretive. They're also sort of prone to like the occult or hidden secrets they find out about the universe.
Libra and Venus Goddess of Love and beauty -Fits to a tee. Libras are known for Charm, Longing for Love, and Appreciating Beauty. That's their trademark.
Virgo and the God Mercury/Hermes sort of fits. I don't know about deceptive, but being interested in medicine, travel, language and writing fits. What the heck is "animal husbandry"? Initial definition my brain came up with: Marrying animals???
Leo and the God Apollo -Yes. Arts, music and light and prophecy -Leos are known or these and their innate sense of wisdom. They're also known to be attractive.
Cancer and Artmeis is weird. What's with all these gods and causing plagues? Virgin? Ok... Hunting... ummm, not anymore....Wilderness, Yes Cancers like nature, Childbirth -Ahhh there we go! Cancers are associated with being nuturing and clinging to close family and making everyone around them feel at home.
Gemini and the God Mercury/Hermes. Alright, this one fits well. They're known for being cunning and deceptive to get what they want. Social manipulators on some level. They're interested in anything new that they can have fun doing so travel definitwly makes sense.  They're also know to excel in intellectualism, art, language, and writing. Animal Husbandry? They don't marry animals.
Taurus and Venus? Hmmm... I know Taurus is caring and has good taste in art. They're pretty well blanced -very similar to a Libra. But it's still a weird fit.

Aries... Wow... I knew Ares God of War wasn't going to be a pretty comparison, but really: Hate, War, Bloodlust, Violence, Manly Courage -not just the regular kind, and Civil Order -despite the fact that he's prone to cause war. Well I know Zodiac Aries can be argumentative and prone to anger, and they do believe wars are justified on some level, but I wouldn't say they're on the same level as Ares in terms of hate and negativity. Aries are more concerned with leading the way and finding truth/ wisdom. I guess that's where your Civil Order comes in...

The Greeks were a weird people. I don't know why they went out of their way to worship beings associated with inbreeding and Cyclopses and causing plagues and marrying animals... They're just weird.

  1. Goodness, you rule. The mystic-geek part of me shouts in delight with this.

First of all, I'm happy to see Aries beat Leo in this particular ranking. I know that it isn't really a ranking situation, but since leadership is what we Aries like to do the most, I took it a bit personal when Leo was given the prize in your other blog for being the most well-rounded. *wink*

Unfortunately, my happiness with Aries is kinda blemished with Mars being associated with it. It makes sense, however. Zodiac traits aren't automatically moral and correct. Mars is an Aries gone bad. And a bad Aries would totally cause problems with everyone and try to take over the world...lol.

A Pisces being associated with Poseidon makes total sense. When you read stories about Poseidon, he kinda acts like a very masculine version of you. His attitude changes a lot, and he can most certain brood on things and descend into a dark, sour mood.

So Libra and Taurus are associated with Venus? Are you sure one of them isn't associated with Juno? (Zeus' wife).

Animal husbandry simply means "takes care of animals"

I would say Capricorn goes with Saturn. Saturn was a cruel bastard.

  2. Capricorns are pessimistic, but i wouldn't necessarily say they're cruel. That's cool about the Poseidon thing you mentioned :)

  3. As does Mercury/ Hermes. I don't know why. Although the Signs do have similar tendencies.

  4. I'm a virgo, but not in anyway like hermes, but at the same time it logically fits, maybe consider Athena too.

  5. This was very informative, but I just wanted to point out that Aquarius is not an air sign; it's a water sign.

  6. Aquarius is called the "Water Bearer" but is technically an Air Sign.
