The Future Economy

There was something important that I wanted to write about, but now I’ve forgotten. Too many thoughts rolling around in my brain- as usual. Here’s a thought though (that I thought was just mine until I talked with my sister yesterday):
If Utopia existed, wouldn’t we live in a place without currency? People would still “work”, but it wouldn’t be for money. It would be because (1) it was something they genuinely wanted to do, (2) people would act out of a sense of duty, (3)people would derive meaning and purpose from accomplishing tasks, and/or (4) people would act out of compassion. A bus driver for example wouldn’t pick people up and drop them off for money, but for a sense of pride or a sense of helping people or because it was something they wanted to do.
This thought occurred to me after someone suggested that the recession was a good thing. They said it meant less people had to waste their lives living from 9-5 doing what someone else was paying them to do. There would be more time for self-discovery, meeting new people, and living life more fully.
I decided this person was somewhat right. They way I see the economy going is this: Jobs-DOWN, Prices of Things-UP, Unemployment-UP, Quality of Education System and Infrastructure-DOWN, People with Insurance-Down, Monetary Income from a Job-DOWN. However, in-home jobs, like selling products online or selling things to people you know regularly, will increase. Jobs are NOT secure right now. Sears, Sony, Borders, Marie Calendars, Kellogs, and A&W Root Beer are going under. Industries are becoming extinct. The people who recognize this early on and shift to the new way of business will profit the most. That’s why finding a good product to sell that people need and will continue to use is better. For instance- Toilet Paper. Everyone needs it. It runs out. People need more. If you had a special brand that people could only get through you or the company you represent, you could have multiple people buying your product on a monthly basis. Once that was established, you could get a residual income, by doing nothing. Just sit back and collect. Networking is still key. And if everyone had something to sell to people who needed it, companies would only produce and ship out the products and everyone would be employed to sell something.
I work with a company called USANA. They sell nutritional supplements, healthy energy drinks, Nutrisystem meals, protein bars… I won’t go into it, but potentially if I can sell these products that I know are of the highest quality and are something people Need, then I can gain an income and help people.
In time it is possible that we will throw out currency all together and just exchange products and services. If everyone lived for everyone else and not just themselves, we could live that dream.
