ANIMAL RIGHTS Part 5: Fish, Otters, Life

Fish:  As a Pisces, I now feel instinctually protective of this animal. Fish have been used in many times as a symbol for Christianity. The fish is graceful in movement and lacks as much ability to harm or attack as it does to defend itself. They’re not cuddly, but they are beautiful.
In the U.S. there was a dispute between Native Americans and farmers over salmon. The Native Americans wanted the river preserved so the salmon could migrate upstream to spawn. After the salmon spawned, the Native Americans could then fish for them. The farmers wanted the water from the river to irrigate their crops. The two groups went to court, and the minority group lost. When it came time for the salmon to spawn, they only had about an inch of water to move in. About 80,000 salmon died slowly due to the lack of water on their way to Spawn. All the government did after was place a temporary ban on fishing for salmon. [When people Don’t respect animals, animals Always suffer]
Lastly: Animals in General: When animals aren’t taken into consideration and they are exploited and killed, everyone suffers. The world is a globe. A big fish bowl. We are all living in it. We all impact it in some way –negative or positive. When animals are killed in large numbers, it throws the while ecosystem out of wack. If multiple ecosystems go out of sync, everything unravels.
Sea otters were once hunted for their fur. They were killed frequently in great amounts and were almost completely depleted. Because sea otters eat sea urchin, there was then an abundance of sea urchin. Because urchins eat kelp, there was then an extreme decrease in kelp. Because fish live in kelp, there was a severe decrease in fish. This negatively impacted fishermen, who needed to catch and sell fish to pay bills. Sea otters were then banned from being hunted. Follow that? Sea otters Down   = Urchin Up = Kelp Down  = Fish Down = $ for Fisherman  Down = Sea otters Up.
In conclusion, humans are stupid. We can impact the environment in such a profound, harmful way but act careless end up taking life we can’t give back.
You know what happens when ecosystems and animals within them aren’t cared for? They’re called Cities. What animals live in virtually all cities? Rats. And cockroaches. And pigeons. And squirrels. And sometimes coyotes. Only animals that are scavengers and can live off the scraps of human litter can survive there. What a beautiful world we live in and accidentally don’t care about destroying.
